eco-classrooms are proud we've made the Constructing Excellence Award for Sustainability Shortlist across the whole of the London and South East Region. This is because our eco-classrooms can be adapted to meet site needs and have the capability to meet Passivehaus Standards, in addition to being a quick-to-build solution.
The judges were impressed by the potential for energy savings of some 70% and notable reductions in energy usage and costs over the buildings lifespan - proving this is an outstanding sustainable and practical alternative to mobile classrooms built to a high quality. We clarified the superb levels of insulation used - resulting in thermal performance and u-values that are some 3 times the standard that legislation currently requires:-
Suspended ground floor: 0.088 WM2K (Building Regulations require 0.25 WM2K)
External walls: 0.114 W/M2K(Building Regulations require 0.35 WM2K)
Flat roof with insulation: 0.088 WM2K (Building Regulations require 0.25 WM2K)
Aluminium doors / windows: 1.800 W/M2K
Sustainablity is central to our designs: We reiterated that our modular buildings are made from 99% recyclable materials and we utilise methods that significantly reduce waste and CO2 emissions. With a current surge in building and a severe shortage of traditional building materials – timber is a carbon neutral and easily accessible option to need meet current classroom shortages.
We also demonstrated eco-classrooms adaptability and inventive design capabilities. Illustrating how off site construction methods were utilised and adapted to enable us to build in tight restricted spaces with limited access, where traditional building methods weren't a possible solution.
Examples were given of how we provide light filled modular classrooms with high quality specifications and fittings used as standard. We showed how eco-classrooms are also built on the level ground to remove the need for steps or ramps, and have smooth and flush internal finishes which illustrate our careful design and high calibre of craftmanship.
Our architect-designed structures blend with surroundings, maximise the natural light and create practical inspiring eco-friendly spaces that withstand the high demands placed on community buildings.
